Its’ been a busy year for the students on the Horticulture LTI here in Clarecastle.

We have cleared out, put nutrients into the soil and planted up the polytunnel with lovely seasonal vegetables, salads and flowers filling the space with beautiful colours and aromas. Our students have also planted the outside beds with potatoes and brassicas so we are looking forward to our first plate of buttery new potatoes.

We have also busied ourselves with landscaping in the garden, building on the excellent work that our students from last year started so we are hoping for more vibrant colours and planting as the season progresses. Unfortunately the rabbits have discovered where we are and have taken a fancy to our sunflowers! Any ideas on how to deal with them welcome.

Our current project that we are working on is digging out and preparing a pond so that should keep a few of the lads busy.
If you are passing and are interested in future courses do drop in and we would be delighted to show you around.
Have a lovely summer and don’t forget to leave some wild spaces for the butterflies and bees.
