CLDC, in response to the Covid-19 crisis and the subsequent economic implications on communities, established a food bank of non-perishable products for families and individuals who are struggling to make ends meet.
CLDC’s Board of Management allocated a start-up fund to the initiative, SICAP assigned additional budget and we were delighted to receive donations from Ennis EBS, AIB Ennis, The Lions Club Ennis and Shannon Civil Defence as well as grant aid though the LCDC.
The food bank is strictly referral based with agencies such as Tusla, Schools, SCP, HSE, Clare Youth Service and Clarecare availing of the supports for their clients. We have also provided support to the residents in Direct Provision Centres, Homeless Hubs and temporary accommodation services. To date 135 families have received food and essential item boxes and we will continue to provide this much needed food for as long as we can.
