Last chance to join Clare’s free Citizen Science Land & Water sessions
Clare Local Development Company is inviting local residents, community groups and nature-lovers to join the final three events in its free Citizen Science Land & Water series, funded by the LEADER 2023–2027 programme and delivered in partnership with Nature Network Ireland. These practical, hands-on sessions are designed to help people across Clare understand local biodiversity, protect water quality and take simple actions that make a real difference on the ground.

Across the series, participants explore topics such as native and invasive species, invertebrates, plant identification, land use and habitat health, with expert facilitators guiding each session. The remaining events focus on invertebrates, native and invasive species, and land use, combining accessible science with local knowledge and a strong community spirit. All sessions are free, but places are limited and pre-booking is essential.
Invertebrates session in Ennistymon up next
The upcoming Invertebrates session (in-person) will introduce participants to the tiny creatures that power our ecosystems – from insects to other invertebrates that keep soils healthy, pollinate plants and form the base of many food webs. Facilitated by ecologist Albert Nolan, this workshop will help people discover the fascinating world of life without backbones and gain a deeper appreciation for these often-overlooked species and their vital roles in maintaining ecosystem balance. You can book here or go to our events page.
The Native and Invasive Species online webinar will explore how to identify native species and spot invasive plants and animals that threaten our rivers, woodlands and wetlands. Led by Rachel Dowling, the session will give practical guidance on recognising invasive species, understanding their impacts and reporting sightings, all from the comfort of your own home.
The final Land Use session (in-person) will bring participants outdoors for plant identification, habitat exploration and species spotting along the River Inagh near Ennistymon. Facilitated by Michelle Jongenelen, this workshop will help people see familiar places with fresh eyes, learning how land use decisions affect biodiversity, water quality and climate resilience in Clare.
These Citizen Science events are delivered by Clare Local Development Company through the LEADER programme and Citizen Science in conjunction with Nature Network Ireland, ensuring that local communities are at the heart of environmental action. By taking part, attendees can build their skills, meet like-minded people and contribute to a healthier future for Clare’s land and water.
To learn more about the series and to book a place on the remaining sessions, visit cldc.ie and search for “Citizen Science Land & Water”, or check CLDC’s social media channels for direct booking links. Pre-booking is required for all events and early registration is encouraged to secure a place.
