LEADER-supported Quin Abbey Visitor App officially launched
Clare Local Development Company (CLDC), through the LEADER Programme, has supported the development of an innovative new Quin Heritage visitor app that brings the history of Quin Abbey to life through audio, graphics and a guided smartphone tour.
The Quin Friary QR app system was formally launched on Sunday, August 16, at Tearmann Gardens on Main Street, Quin, beside the grotto. The official opening was performed by Mayor of Clare, Councillor Alan O’Callaghan.
The new Quin Friary Visitor App offers visitors of all ages an accessible and engaging way to discover one of County Clare’s most important heritage sites. Designed for smartphone users, the app can be accessed easily by scanning a QR code available at the Friary entrance.

Once connected, visitors can follow a short introduction to the history of Quin Friary before beginning a guided tour of the building. The experience uses clear audio narration, visual material and graphics to help visitors understand the stories, architecture and heritage of the site as they move through it.
The tour highlights 16 notable artefacts and features found throughout the Friary, with a short description of each. It also provides information on other important aspects of the Abbey, offering visitors a richer understanding of the Franciscan site and its place in the history of Quin.
Attending the launch were CLDC LEADER Coordinator Siobhan Normoyle and CLDC LEADER Development Officer Aisling De Klerk – CLDC’s support complements a project that combines local heritage with practical digital technology.
Also in attendance were Clare Colleran Molloy, Cathal Crowe, Joe Cooney and Timmy Dooley, alongside members of the local community and those involved in bringing the initiative to fruition.
The project demonstrates how LEADER funding can support communities to develop new ways of sharing local heritage, strengthening the visitor experience and making cultural sites more welcoming and informative for residents and tourists alike.
Visitors can explore the new experience through the Quin Heritage website
