Powering Clare’s Future: Building Fair & Sustainable Energy Communities
Clare Local Development Company (CLDC) is helping local communities lead the way to a fair, sustainable energy future. Through two key programmes—Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC)— and SICAP-backed Just Transition – CLDC ensures that both people and places benefit from Ireland’s energy transition.
Sustainable Energy Communities: Building Local Energy Resilience
The Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) initiative, supported by SEAI, empowers local groups to plan and act on energy efficiency and renewable projects suited to their area.
Key actions include:
- Creating Energy Master Plans in Shannon, Ballyvaughan, Kilfenora, and other communities.
- Coordinating Solar Meitheal group projects to lower installation costs.
- Conducting community building energy audits to identify local solutions.
- Supporting groups through the SEAI Better Energy Communities Programme for real energy savings and investment.
Just Transition: Fairness and Access for All
Rising energy costs and digital barriers can leave many behind in the shift to a low-carbon economy. The Just Transition Programme, backed by the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) and informed by TASC research, works to change that—ensuring climate and energy initiatives reach those most affected by cost-of-living pressures.
The programme focuses on practical support and inclusivity:
- Raising awareness of energy grants and supports through local channels.
- Helping individuals without digital access to apply for funding.
- Promoting climate fairness and energy equity across Clare.
- Coming soon: Free community energy clinics & workshops (rolling out in 2026).
Working Together for Community Energy
Together, the Just Transition and SEC programmes form a bridge between social inclusion and technical expertise. One provides the tools, strategies, and projects to deliver real energy results. The other ensures equitable access and participation.
🌱 Choose your path to sustainable energy—use either, or both, for maximum impact.
Whether you’re a community group ready for solar projects and audits, or an individual needing grant help, CLDC has you covered.
