The Co. Clare Wood Energy Project is a collaboration between CLDC and Teagasc with the aim of developing the county’s wood energy sector.
Since 2005 the project has supported the installation of wood chip boilers in medium to large scale sites such as Clare County Council’s Ennis headquarters, Cahercalla Community Hospital and Beckman Coulter in O’Callaghan’s Mills.
On the supply side, a wood chip supply chain based on the county’s extensive forestry resource has been established. Farmers are supported to work together in clusters to give them more buying and selling power in the local timber markets.
A ‘Guide to Selling Your Timber for Wood Energy’ has been published and a wood energy shop window has been established on the CCWEP website.
